The training is scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday, August 17-19, 2010 at the Montana Weatherization Training Center in Bozeman, Montana.

The daily agenda will be kept fluid to accommodate hands-on demonstrations and local presenters. The topics for all three days will include:

Training Topics
This training will not only provide a comprehensive overview of healthy home/safety issues; but also emphasize testing/assessment equipment and protocols, as well as low cost mitigation for these issues:
•  Lead containing products and materials
•  Household Chemicals/Products, Pesticides and Integrated Pesticide Management
•  Asthma and Allergy Sources
•  Moisture and Molds
•  Hantavirus
•  Lice
•  Combustion Gases and Carbon Monoxide
•  Home Energy and Weatherization related Home Health Issues/Controls
•  Drinking Water Quality
•  On-site waste water management
•  Home safety assessment – falls, fires, water
•  Radon
•  Plasticizers (Phthalates, DEHP)
•  Asbestos Containing Materials
•  Mercury
•  Take-Home Occupational Contamination

Training Segments
This training will consist of 20 hours of training of which be a combination of classroom and hands-on diagnostic/assessment skill-set training. Segments of the training are:
•  Introduction and Risk Overview
•  Steps to creating a community Healthy Homes Program
•  In-depth training focusing on the health effects, assessment and mitigation of healthy home/safety issues
•  Media and Tools to Promote a Tribal Healthy Homes Campaign and Community Program
•  Teaching Others About Healthy Housing – Reaching Youth and Adult Learners
•  Tracking Your Success
•  Healthy Homes Partners, Funding Sources and Resources
•  Refining Your Steps to creating a community Healthy Homes Program

Registration Fee
The registration fee for this 2 1/2-day training will be $125 per participant. In an effort to encourage teams to register, the fee for two or more members from the same organization will be $100 per participant. Payment is due before the beginning of the training and is payable by cash, check or money order. The registration fee covers all training and materials as well as breaks; lunches will be on your own.
Cancellation/Refund Policy: For a 100% refund (less a $50 processing fee) cancellations and refund requests must be in writing and received by MSU Extension 10 days prior to the event. Any cancellation received less than 10 days before 06/09/2010 will be refunded $25.


Travel Scholarship
Due to generous funding through ARRA funds, the first 60 participants to request a travel scholarship will receive $500 to offset transportation, accommodations and other travel-related expenses. Travel scholarships are limited to three per organization or tribe. Participants must attend the entire training; scholarships will be paid by cash stipend at the end of the training. Confirmation of receipt of a travel scholarship will be emailed along with registration confirmation. Sign-up for the travel scholarship is located on the

Location Information
The training will take place at the Montana Weatherization Training Center at 705 Osterman Drive on the outskirts of Bozeman; find a map and driving directions here. Lead Renovation, Repair and
Painting (RRP) Training
August 19-20, 2010
(1 PM to 5 PM on the 19th & 8 AM to 5 PM on the 20th)
Montana Weatherization Training Center
Bozeman, Montana

EPA's Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program Rule (RRP) will affect those who work in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities, including: renovation contractors, maintenance workers in multi-family housing, painters, and other specialty trades. Under the rule, child-occupied facilities are defined as residential, public or commercial buildings where children under age six are present on a regular basis.
Contractors are required to have a Certified Renovator
on board for each job taking place in a home
or facility defined by the rule.
